The main philosophy behind our business is to help protect the environment and wildlife, through the reduced use of plastic carrier bags. Reusable shopping bags should be stylish and durable.
Fizbag’s aim is to rid the world of 100 million plastic carrier bags by 2010 and so far we are right on course!
Fizbag creator; Amanda Overland is a busy working mother of 2 daughters and 2 step-daughters whose ages range from 5 to 18 years old.
"All the girls have their own favourite Fizbags. My younger daughters use them daily to take their lunches and other essential items into school with them; they also bring all their school work home in them at the end of each term. My teenagers especially love the shoulder bags and keep them in their handbags. Even my husband keeps his dark blue one in his briefcase! As a family, we use our Fizbags all the time, from my 5 year old to my mother, and all of our friends in-between, it's become a bit of an epidemic!"
The idea behind Fizbag began over a year ago for Amanda;
"I started feeling really guilty about the number of plastic carrier bags I was throwing away. I kept them in a drawer with the intention of re-using them, then after a few weeks I'd just throw them in the bin because there were too many. I then started seeing images of wildlife and birds being tangled up and sometimes swallowing plastic bags. I knew we had to ban plastic carrier bags but for this to happen we needed to have a PRACTICAL reusable bag for life.
I found the problem with the big shopping bags was that I had to plan ahead, and I wasn't going to carry an armful of huge bags around with me just in case I bought something! I always left them in the boot of the car or at home. Reusable bags have to be minimum hassle when you are busy with day to day life!
Now, I keep 3 Fizbags in my handbag at all times and don't even notice they're there. I haven't used a plastic bag since."
At Fizbag we believe it is possible for the UK to be plastic bag free, we also believe that you can do it with style, make a statement and not be a walking advert.
